Composting improves aeration and drainage in clay soils, holds moisture in sandy soils, eases cultivation, acts as a disease suppressant, balances pH, and helps all soils resist crusting, erosion, and leaching of nutrients. Worm castings are the most nutrient-rich, pH balanced, and consistent of all composts. Vermicompost can work indoors year ‘round, is convenient, compact, neat, reduces waste sent to the landfill, and produces an abundance of fishing worms. Worm castings which are a nutrient-rich addition to your houseplants or gardens, providing an excellent amendment for your soil. This workshop will be taught by Dan Welch, Executive Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County.
